This will be my main work rig. I only play a few games but tend to keep my computers for some time so like the GX card to be fairly recent and with enough power to play games comfortably for the next few years. I am trying for some form of future proofing. I want it fairly quiet but don't need it to be whisper quiet. I do a lot of processor intensive science work so would like reasonable processor, memory and hard drive speed without breaking the bank. As far as the power supply goes I wanted something reliable and with a bit of headroom for extra hard drives and electronics. My main dilemma is concerning the motherboard. Do I stick with the P35 or shell out twice the price for the X38? I would like to hear opinions on the matter. I have read quite a bit here and there and I am leaning towards the X38 but still not sure. I will be overclocking in the future so would like that option. I would like more RAM but XP only recognises up to 3GB and do not wish to use Vista until I have to. The monitor is one I like if any of you have any personal experience with said monitor I would like to hear it.

I doubt you'll get a Yorkie unless you preorder it. The Q9300 has been out in limited quantity in Europe, so is the X48 in small supply. Go with something that has been proven & around for a while. You may actually find a deal on the cpu:

Q6600
Gigabyte GA P35C-DS3R
4GB (2x2GB) CorsairXMS2
620W Corsair HX
Antec P182
1000 GB Samsung HD103UJ
ASUS 2014L1T 20x DVD±R
Samsung Pebble SM2232BW
512MB XFX 8800GT
Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme
120mm Noctua NF-S12

The ram is cheaper & has lower latency. The TRUE is just one piece and easier to install than the IFX-14. The Ninja would be more compatible with most boards, but if you can afford a better cooler, get it since you'll be overclocking the cpu.

Stop talking about future-proofing when Nehalem will obsolete everything come end of year. Yes, the X38 supports FSB1600, PCI-E 2.0, etc. If you get the Yorkie, I doubt you'll have the need to upgrade the cpu. Wait 1+ years for a cpu/mobo/ram overhaul. Go with the most affordable good parts.

you could go with eVGA for your gfx; they'll let you upgrade in 3 months, and also XFX apparently have bad RMA/customer service issues

You can. Just click Edit button - the paper & lightning bolt icon - at the top of your post. You may have to set up your forum profile for quick edit.

Perfect. Go ahead. You won't have too many limits in overclocking X38.
