I'm currently trying to upgrade my RAM from 4 x 1 Gigabyte sticks at 533mhz to 2 x 2 Gigabyte sticks at 800mhz. My system manual for my Dell XPS 410 says that I can put in 512 MB and 1 Gig sticks with no mention of 2 Gig sticks. This is all DDR2. What I'd like to know is if the modules that hold the RAM sticks are really limited to 1 Gig each to where my system won't recognize that it's 2 Gigs, or if I should just go ahead and get 4 x 1 Gig sticks?

You should do one of two things:

either

1. Call Dell Technical support with your service tag number for an exact answer.

or

2. go to www.crucial.com and use their memory scanning tool. The tool is useful for telling you what kind of memory configuration your rig is compatible with and will recommend modules based off of that. Doesn't mean you have to buy crucial memory, just that you can use that info to make a purchasing decision.

Hope this helps.
