Hi, i am changing out my cpu on my machine.  i removed the old 5200 heatsink and the cpu came out with it, stuck to the bottom.  i think i can just use the arctic clean stuff i have to seperate the two, right?  now, i did try to stick it back on to warm it up before taking it out, but i kind of bent like two of the pins.  i have a friend who wants this old cpu, if i bend the pins back, will it be ok???

When removing a heatsink, gently 'twist' back and forth applying soft pressure to break the bond between the heatsink and CPU.  If you are able to straighten the pins and fit the CPU properly back into the socket, it should be all right.  If not, the CPU is ruined.  Choose your tool of choice and be careful.

make sure its warm, you need to heat it up first and it comes apart easy some TC will harden at room temp and soften when warm

Depends on the pins. Those pins are very sensitive, a small brake in the pin can kill the CPU.

Yeah, I usually turn on the PC for a few minutes, shut down, then twist and pull the heatsink off.

There is no such thing as a stupid question.
