I have a 17 inch screen and lowered the screen resolution as a suggestion to play DVDs. Now the left half of my screen has slid away where I cannot see it to change the screen resolution back to where it was... Help

Try changing resolution in safe mode.

Adjust the Resolution from your monitor main menu.. if you can't do this then

Open Display Settings by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, clicking Personalization, and then clicking Display Settings.

Under Resolution, move the slider to the resolution you want, and then click Apply.

IMO, that is his problem....He can't see start button to get started !
Safe mode will give 800x600 resolution so he can make changes.
