It's on AMD/ATI's page that fixes this issue:

737-33033: ATI Radeon HD2xxx/HD3xxx: Intermittent stuttering issues seen when running various 3D applications

Finally, they actually address this problem I've been having ever since I bought this pain in the bleep

i told my self i would not reinstall 8.3 again. of course i did not listen.

fired up catalyst 8.3. then rebooted and installed the hot fix.
my 3dmark score did improve over the standard 8.3 but not by much. basically:
8.2 - 12400
8.3 - 9000
8.3+HF - 9300

of course i am not going to draw my conclusion based on 3dmark06 alone so i fired up cod4. the 8.3 + HF i noticed that my fps did not drop as low and did not drop as often. I was quite impressed to be honest. It was definately night and day compared to 8.3 w/o HF.
Whether its faster than 8.2 or not i am not quite sure but it seems to appear that way.

Im running winxp pro sp2 fyi. I believe vista users do not have problems with catalyst 8.3 but only the win XP users that do.

3% gain from 8.3 sounds good. but dont underlook the 25% loss from 8.2 even though this is a purely synthetic benchmark.

I'll be sure to give these a shot. If minimum framerates increase across the board then these hotfix drivers are doing an amazing job at increasing performance. Minimum framerates are much more important than max. You never notice much over 60fps but you sure do notice 20fps right?

I think I might wait for 8.4. Too many stories on here of decreased performance in XP, and I'm using 64 bit xp, so I'll just wait and see if 8.4 are any better than 8.2, but if enough people report improvements then I'll get 8.3 and the hotfix. I was actually hoping that I could do the hotfix with 8.2.

I've just finished runnig benchies again with the Catalyst 8.3 hotfix. Under "information center" in the CCC, it shows the Catalyst Version as 8.4. I've been logging benchmark results over the past few days, so I have an easy comparison.

Crysis CPU Benchmark
1920x1200, High Detail, No AA

8.3 --> 26.745
8.4 --> 26.8

3DMark06 Pro V 1.1
1920x1200, No AA, No AF
Average over 4 passes

8.3 --> 15,187
8.4 --> 15,179

I even loaded up a save game of The Witcher because it has lots of laggies while running around heavily populated towns. I noticed no difference in performance.

With the Crysis benchmark, at the point where you shoot the pickup truck, a massive graphic anomoly manifestid itself in the form of a green and black wall. This happened in all 4 passes of the test.

I will be un-installing 8.4 and going back to 8.3 because of the Crysis graphic issue.
