Hi,

My friend has recently asked me to find him an affordable graphics card to replace his aging 6600GT on his also aging Intel E2180 with 2gigs Hynix DDR2 800 ram and new IntelĀ® G31 + ICH7 mobo.

So lets cut to the chase.. because of where I live(South Africa), everything is very, very expensive compared to the US or UK. So I've looked around (everywhere) and have finally set my sights on the Sapphire HD2900GT 256MB. Now, I know the HD2k series from ATI was a major failure in the GPU market, but thats the reason I've picked this card, along side the fact that it's cheaper than the 7900GS/GT and is the same price as the 8600GT (weird huh).

I also now about how a CPU can 'bottle-neck' the GPU, performance wise, so heres my question. Since the 29GT is a weak (and power hungry) GPU, will it really hurt to pair it up with an Intel E2180?

All help and/or suggestions appreciated.

P.S. my friends got a Coolermaster Xtremepower 550W so power isn't an issue.

How much is the Radeon HD3850 where you are?

That's the cheapest card in the mid / high range at the moment. I would definitely go with that over a 2900GT

2900gt isn't too great.
