I like to use notepad and microsoft paint, should I get a machine built on a D5400XS board or will a single QX9650 be enough? I am thinking of 8GB ram. Please help.

Don't be so stupid, dual 771 is not going to cut it nowadays.
When I open Word, I have to do it on my Opteron based server, 128 CPU's=512 cores of madness!
It's usually enough to boot Word, but sometimes when I type big words, strange things can happen.
I find at least 1Tb of RAM is usually enough to play one (two songs is a little too much) song in iTunes, so I generally just put that on repeat as well.
Oh and hot-swappable CPU's for the win!  :D

Nah for work loads like that you need to stick to AMD ;) they cover that kind of work

just double check that the TBL bug doesnt include issues with notepad and mspaint ;)

and exactly who would want to run vista with 800MHZ?

I mean it lags on 2GHZ dual-core not to mention 800MHZ single!!!!

I think you are assuming that VIA is as bad as Intel and AMD when it comes to making chips. Fudziila has an article on the new Mac (zMac) that can run OS 10, Vista (all versions) and z/OS on a single core VIA with 256Mb of RAM.  There are rumours that dual-processor Eden (1.5Ghz) machines are delivering the same performance as a PS3.

Sorry to be the barer of bad to news to the Intel and AMD legions but it's all over. Apple & VIA has won!

Both sockets are dead. Id recommend a Phenom for paint and notepad.

Go for a Dual-CPU configuration..Current Dual-Core or Quad-Core CPU cannot run Notepad and MSPaint simultaneously.
