hi,
i'm going to buy a cheap rig till the nehalem will come & than i'll see what to buy. but for now i need to play some games.
my components are:
e2180 + Ultra120
8800gt
ep35-ds3r

for the mobo- i am hoping that p45 will come soon so the price will drop or i'll get a p45 board with pcie2.0 & if Nehalem is not worth it, i can just put in a good CPU & a new VGA card.

my RAM choices are:
1. CORSAIR DUAL CHANNEL 4096MB DDR2 800 (2048X2) DUAL XMS2 CL 5-5-5-18 -TWIN2X4096-6400C5
2. G.SKILL 4096MB (2048MBX2) DDR2 800 CL4-4-4-12 - F2-6400CL4D-4GBPK
3. G.SKILL 4096MB (2048MBX2) DDR2 800 CL4-4-4-12 - F2-6400CL4D-4GBPI

i can choose from OCZ, Corsair, Geil & G.Skill so if someone have a better choice in the near price lets hear it...

i'm planning to OC the PC to the most i can get with it & than to go down a nuch...

thanks!
D.

your wrong, corsair is better the patriot, lol. micron is king. do not skimp on memory buy the very best you can.

really I've never tried patriot so I can't really say there not as good as corsair. but I know corsiar is better then g.skill or geil had nothing but trouble from geil and g.skill was mixed bag. on my personal system I use muskin which I like as well. just remember with any brand stay away from the cheap line if you want good results.

I am using the memory in no 1. I vote for Corsair. Do not let yourself fool by lower timing. You have to balance the low timing with voltage requirements. Corsair starts at 1.8 V. I am now running at 4-4-4-12 at 1.8 V, and it is running like a charm. My Q6600 is at 3.2 with this ram. In short, i would recommend the no 1. btw, i got that for only $ 60 from fry's the other day.

Micron is king? I don't think anyone uses Micron for 2GB sticks -- not even Micron!

As for the rest, find out what chips are best. Then find out which specific SKUs from each manufacturer is using those chips and go from there.

Unless you're doing some extreme overclocking, you could probably get away with the 4GB Adata ram that Newegg and Fry's typically have for $60 - $70.00. I bought 16GB a while back and most could hit DDR-1066 with little to know voltage boost. All could hit DDR-1000 at 1.9v or less.

It may not be updated, but you can often get a nice list of who's using what chips at http://ramlist.ath.cx/ddr2/

Micron doesn't only make 2 gig sticks they make 4 gig sticks and many memory manufactures use micron modules to make there products from. Micron has some of the best modules for overclocking. But they are not cheap. You don't know much about A-Data memory, if you did you would know A-Data performance memory uses Micron modules. Here check it out yourself:

Nope it doesnt matter, also u cant say which manufacure is the best because the main thing that is important is its timings and voltages
Corsair,OCZ,GEIL,G.SKILL,PATRIOT,CRUCIAL....... are all solid brands but as i said the specs are very important

i'll ask if the store can order Corsair CL4 ones...
they did special order me the WD7500AYYS so maybe they can do that one too...
