ok i finally broke down and decided to upgrade, i have roughly $200 to spare; that doesnt mean i have to spend every penny, i just want something that will keep up for the next year or so.

im currently using an sli board, so i guess i could sli my 6800XT... or not

this is what i came up with thus far
MSI OC 9600GT - 144.99 after rebate
EVGA 8800 GTS - 159.99 after rebate
MSI OC 3870 - 164.99 after rebate

any suggestions? comments? questions?

8800gt>3870>9600gt>8800gs>3850>=G80gts 320meg

If you have $200 you should go with 8800gt. I personally think 9600gt is over rated because people see it perform slightly faster than 3870 with filters with current crop of games but when more shader are used it will crumble just like Geforce 7 series did. Not that it's a bad card or anything. I'm talking about longevity here.

If you want your card to last I would opt for 8800gt then followed by 3870 then 3850 512meg than a 9600gt or 8800gs.

I wouldn't even go with G80GTS 320meg anymore. 8800gs can easily outpace it.

I would go for the 8800GT, which can be found for $200 now. You'll see better performance out of one of these than SLI'd 6800's for sure. Not to mention SLI only performs well in some games, but not others - where as the single card will give solid performance in any game.
The 3870 is also a solid card that I can recommend for your price range.

The 9600 LOOKs good, but I think the newest upcoming games will show that it is in fact not as wicked as the benchmarks now seem - however still a solid card especially if you can get it for $144~ that I saw it on newegg for after rebate.

Best of luck!

The evga 8800GT is great for the price although I hate those single slot cooler. This one is worth $20 more IMO:

The iceQ HD3870 is attractive at it's new $170 no rebate price.

And really, for the money, the 9600GT and 8800GS are also very attractive capable cards. shoot, you could almost SLI 8800GS for $200.
