hello!

I'm having some issues with my C2D E6600

it is running at stock speed, with a stock cooler. according to other people on all different forums, their idle temp is around 30-35°C and around 45° at load.

For me, the temp is at 45-50° at idle and up to 80° in load.

So far I've removed all dust in the heatsink, cleaned the CPU and heatsink and applied fresh thermal paste,
even added 2 case fans to ensure a good air-supply with 2x 60 mm's and a 80mm outtake, and a 60 and a 120mm intake.

I have even removed the top of my case, and all that did absolutly nothing to drop my temperature.

Today I ordered a Thermaltake Blue Orb II and some Arctic Silver 5

Any comments?

Check your vcore. The motherboard may be having a fit and feeding the cpu high voltage. :D
Or maybe it's faulty sensors, touch the heatsink, and feel the burn. :na:

Anyway, unless the new cooler arrive and produce the same temperature, you shouldn't worry.

How high should the vcore be? It's at 1.280 atm

That should be fine. It's not that high. So vcore isn't it. :p

bah, i got a E6400 oc to 2.6, not a big oc, but better than 2.13 .. both cpu run around 46 idle and 55 load ... my prob is my room temp, really high, my house is a real oven ... i got 2 120mm and 2 80mm each outake and intake.

maybe your room temp is higher than in winter .. normal

Defective heatsink. Made in china, amirite?

Oh wow, i just realized that you were using OTHER peoples' statistics. Lame. How can you accurately judge what their load is. They might consider running Netscape 'load' where as you consider GROMACS 'load'. Your specs seem normal, but then, i'm using older stuff.

Another e6600 I own down stairs is idling at 28°C and is at 35°C when torture testing with 2x prime.

Here I have the double. So I'm SURE there is something wrong

Yes, it's not the best temps.  I ran 40/53C idle/load (orthos small ffts)

Hope the aftermarket cooler helps.  And please the only 'right' way to mount a HSF is to remove the mobo from the case and install.

Why didn't you get a Thermalright HSF?  TT isn't bad, but........

Because I can't find any dealer who sells those AND has them in stock.

also, I'm using a thermaltake lanbox SFF case. which means I dont have a lot of room. (my air circulation is fine btw :) )

An update now, I dont know what I did, but right now I'm only having a 55°C load after 10 minutes of torturing.

:/

With my e6600, when I still had the stock hsf, I had loads of almost 80 at stock speeds also. Got my Zalman and at stock speeds it never went over 45, and idled at ambient. Even with my OC it still never goes over 65 at load. The Intel HSF sucks, just wait for your new one and until then just be careful with it.

already re-applied thermal paste.

cleaned heatsink and cpu with acetone, put a straight vertical line in the middle with the arrow in the leftbottom corner

and put it on

@OP: What software, etc are you baseing the temps off of? I recommend you use CoreTemp if you aren't using it already.

Not really, it's like a greenhouse here. I'm living in the attic so it gets pretty hot in here sometimes.
