what type of interface is this? i need to connect to this drive to recover the files and don't know what type of adapter/external drive i need - thanks!

It looks to me like it's a mobile IDE drive. It uses different pinouts than desktop IDE drives do, but there are converters available for them. I bought one from Newegg, I'm pretty sure.

And it looks like it already has some sort of adapter on it, so you'd have to pull that off first before putting this one on.
