Reformat hard drive and load Win XP help please Tags: Boot Hard Drives Windows XP Last response: August 1, 2010 6:07 AM in Windows XP Share ninja99 July 31, 2010 4:04:41 AM I inherited a desktop that had be toasted in a virus/trojan attack. Computer would not boot, kept looping back to abnormal shutdown message. So changed bios to boot from CD and put in boot disk. Selected reformat hard drive and got this error message: system error your computer is not responding, incorrect system type restore canceled. Any recommendations on how to proceed? Thinking I need a 3rd party software to clean the hard drive and then install OS. Digging thru my software I have a XP boot disk from my old notebook and a XP upgrade CD. Thanks in advance for the advice! More about : reformat hard drive load win soundguruman August 1, 2010 6:07:42 AM You should not be putting in a boot disk, you should put in a XP installation disk.
