My computers using RAID are all high-end Windows XP Pro SP3 systems. My ASUS P5WDG2 WorkStation Pro mobo has two SATA-II RAID-capable host adapters onboard. My question relates to the mobo's Marvell 614x (fuller name: 88SE6145 SATA RAID chipset).
Marvell's website itself provides nothing other than LAN drivers or documents to home consumers, so that's no help. The ASUS page for my mobo provides drivers for the Marvell 614x and many other drivers and downloads, but I couldn't find all of what I need there.
I downloaded and installed the Marvell drivers and other software that's provided on the Asus site, but I need more, including a working version of the Marvell Raid Utility (MRU) and who knows what else (it's very frustrating not to be able to find a central repository for Marvell's software and drivers). The version of MRU I have, for example, is so out of date that it can't even find it's own RAID controller or any arrays I created on them! Google searches have found all kinds of hits using the keywords Marvell and RAID, but I spent hours and hours and could not find anything useful.
Another thing I need is a good document that explains what the Marvell RAID "Init mode" parameter does: The two options are "No" and "Quick", with no explanation whatsoever what that means or why one should choose one over the other. WTF?
Does anyone know where I can find the software and documents explaining what RAID "Init mode" is and what the two options mean?
Thanks!
