HD3870x2 question

The benchmarks vary. Don't be confused by absolute comparisons of tech. Consider the 3870x2 to be a dual slot, single PCIe x16, single PCB internal Crossfire setup.

Games that don't recognize Crossfire will lag compared to an 8800gts. Games that recognize Crossfire will do very well vs a single 8800gts.

The one gigabyte of the 3870x2 is actually 512 megs per graphics processor. It's simply reported as one gigabyte with effective memory clock of 1800, where it actually shows up as 901.

It's still worth the money and runs well. I just wish I'd waited for the DDR4 version. The 9800gx2 is a bit faster but much more expensive. The 4870x2 will beat them both this summer.

The prices don't fit in with the 3850x2 due in May per Digitimes, but I could see the 4870 and 4870x2 arriving in June with the 4850 arriving later in the summer. We will see.

At any rate, ATI does seem to be stressing dual GPU cards in their roadmaps.
