How is this possible?

My specs:

Sapphire Radeon 3870 512MB ( single slot blue edition)
MBO Fatal1ty AAX8E
Crucial Balistix 4-4-4-12 4GB ( shows 3.25GB)

I thought thats whats going on...
Do u have any sugesstions which CPU would fit fatal1ty mbo and be fast...
THX!

I get about the same score with a x2 4000 (OC'd to 2.35 ghz) and an OC'd 8600 GT.

What was your CPU score? Mine is around 1900. Even a small improvement in that score can make the final score go way up (from what I have heard).

About your last statement, yes, your SM2/3 scores will change, even to say to a good extent if your cpu score goes up as well. @ OP BTW is HT enabled? Not sure if it'll make a difference though...I know the HT deal wasn't all that great of a technology...

well... i think the fatal1ty mobo is a lga 775? well either way i'd go with one of the core 2 duos... not the new wolfdales your mobo probably doesn't support them even with a bios update and the core 2 duos are sub 200 now... all of them... except the quads

Reminds me a a situation at work. I have two computers that I run automated cad apps on. We process thousands of drawings. I have a P4 3.2ghz and a core 2 6550. The P4 will take 1 hour what the core2 does in 15 mins !

Here is the CPU support list:

Get a Q6600 and enjoy

Thats just a very few points over my 2 1/2 year old Optron 146 w/ 7900GT systems on my LAN (see my profile, have 7 on LAN).

Moving one to a 6000+ w/8800GTS (g92) gave me 12K score...everything stock.

Yes its 775 and its HT enabled...

This is what it says about cpu specs:
- Designed for IntelĀ® 90nm Pentium 4 LGA775 processors
- Supports 1066/800MHz FSB
- Supports IntelĀ® Hyper-Threading Technology

So I guess that it doesnt support quad cpu-s...

I though it was the FATAL1TY 650i SLI motherboard :(

Better to spend $20 more and get an E8400. Only 2 cores but OC's to 3.8Ghz+ on stock volts and cooler, does over 4.3 with 1.45 volts.

No. Its Fatal1ty AAX8E... Its older mbo than FP-IN9 SLI...
I don't want to buy cpu and find out that its not supported by my mbo.

Just wait for Nahelem and make old cpu go boom ! :) j/k

Don't be too upset about it, you could have an old AMD 2400+ like me..

Reply to cah027

:) Yeah I know...
Kinda expected more with Radeon 3870 and 3.25 Gigs of RAM...
At least its better than my old X1600XT!

How much room this cpu leaves for OC? I have abit software oc prog that oc it to 3.456Ghz... can I go higher?

Ouch... I have my old 2600+ xp as my HTPC now. Great CPU in it's day, though.

To the OP, sounds like it is time for a full Mobo, CPU and Ram update. Hey, atleast you got the video card part of it out of the way.

I doubt it, unless you do some major cooling, like water.

How do your games perform? If you are satisfied with game performance then I wouldn't worry about your benchmark scores.

I was going to say that too, but I forgot. San Pedro is right, if the games you play run to your liking, that an upgrade isn't neccesarily needed. The benchmark numbers are fun to look at, but they aren't everything. Like I said, I get aroung 62xx points in 06, and it makes me jealous when I see all the 10k+ scores. But, I wait to upgrade, since all the games I play are running great at max or close to max settings. (It probably helps that my old CRT has a max resolution of 1280x1040 :ange: ) Also, I haven't tried Crysis yet, so, I don't have that compulsion to make it run good either :na:

I can play Bioshock at 1280x800 with everything high smoothly...
And just finished Gears of war with everything high excepct texture detail which was on medium with no AA...

Reply to marin_martinovic

Yea, I think your stuck with having a P4 90nm chip on that Mobo.

http://compare.intel.com/pcc/showc [...] ture=en-US

If you have the means, get a newer mobo (perhaps one that can support the wolfies and the Yorkies for a future upgrade path) and get the q6600 for now (bang for buck a great buy). You should be able to clear 10k in 3DMark06 no problem with your 3870 and a Q6600. Your mobo and cpu are the bottleneck. Any further attempts at OC'ing your current CPU will yield marginal gains at best.

By the way, what resolution were you running 3D06 at?

Reply to Preecher

I ran 3DMArk06 at 1280x1024... everything default...

SanPedro gave me idea so I did quick test with Crysis...
1860x1050... everything high... no AA...
SMOOOOTH... runs great....

Reply to marin_martinovic

Well, maybe you can hold off then, until the wallet can justify the purchase.

Sounds like you'll be able to squeeze some more life out of your rig. I don't forsee any games comming out until the end of the year that are going to be more system taxing than Crysis. At the end of the day, if its playable, thats all that matters. The 3D scores are really just for peeps that want to compare Epenis size anyway :)

Cheers!

Reply to Preecher

I think I'll do that for now...
Thank you guys! If nothing I'm less envvy about 10k+ scores...

A 3870 with a Q6600 @3.0Ghz gives you about a 12K score or 16200 if you have crossfire. As for playability all my games are much smoother with my quad than when i had a PD @ 4.0Ghz. A 3850 or anything higher needs a core2 to ensure there is as little of a bottleneck as possible. And yes my Epenis is 16200 marks long but i cant play crysis at a playable level. All other games are great with 4AA 16Ansio.
3Dmark ~16200 (Sm1 6320) (sm2 7815) (cpu 4302) need new mobo for better CPU oc.
