WD500AAKS not giving full 500gb

I've tried installing the WD500AAKS hard drive on two different computers, one with xp and one with vista. Both computers of different builds only read the hard drive as a 250gb. I've tried installing recommeded drivers but don't know what i'm doing wrong. Please help?

In Vista bring up the disk management tools under Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Storage>Disk Management(Local). This should tell you if it's even recognized, all of it may not be part of the main partition or formatted correctly.

If you are not partitioned all the way(lets say 50% unallocated) and are under vista, you can extend the partition to take the full drive in a matter of seconds with the Extend Volume option.

Thank you both so very much! Right now I feel pretty stupid, but I didn't know how to do that in Vista. I've been struggling with it and finally posted. You two are very very awesome. Thank you for helping me with something so easy and silly. Just when i was going to give up and just deal with the loss.
