Hello,

I am about to install the Pioneer PDP 5050 and have heard some comments
about a "break in period" for the first 100 hours. I would appreciate
hearing about experience / opionions on whether or not this is recommended
and / or needed. (I didn't find anything at the official website of
Pioneer.)

Thanks

It is recommended to follow the guidelines for "break in" throughout the
life of any phosphor based product including CRT and PDPs. That would mean
varying the viewing format and content and using lower than factory default
contrast settings.

I wonder if the "break in" period is break in for the set or for the
consumer.

Leonard

They told you to switch channels? If not, WTF does "vary program material"
mean?

As stated above, "That would mean varying the viewing format and
content." In particular, don't view

I've got the 43" Pioneer. I turned it on and watched it. It looks
fine, to me. I've had if for about 3 months now.

They probably figure once you keep it long enough to have watched 100 hours
of programming, you'll be past the store's return policy. Therefore breaking
in your wallet, before the Tv breaks anyway. God I hope you got the $500
extended warranty.
