I work with GIS/RS using large grid/image files and tables.
I can choose from a Dell Precision 7500 with
- RAID 0 on 2 x 450GB SAS Hard Drive, 1 inch (15K rpm)
- RAID 0 on 2 x 1.5TB SATA 3.0Gb/s, 7200 RPM Hard Drive with 16MB DataBurst Cache

My third choice could be a Apple Pro with a RAID 0 on 2 x 1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s

Thanks,

Pablo

the RAID 0 with 2x 450GB SAS drive will be faster on a large scale. not only will you get approximately 50MB/s faster throughput, but your latency will drop drastically as well
