I would like to know a bunch cooler that would be good for my 8400.
I have a Asus p5n32-e sli .
I dont think I will overclock it, I havent ever done overclocking so my knowlage on that is not that good.
although i know alot of forum member here arnt fans of the hyper TX, the cooler master hyper TX2 is a good buy. if you search THG for the article on HS/f's then it is clear that THG certainly backs this cooler.
i have used it before and to well made and keeps things cool.
I don't have any experience with an 8400, but I have a Zalman 9500 on my E6600, and it works great for me. Lowered my stock temps from 55/75 (idle/load) with the stock HSF to 33(or whatever ambient is)/45. Even with my OC my loads never go over 65. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6835118223

yup zalman arnt bad either i like there copper flower coolers. especially if you have a bigger budget, but if your not OC'ing much it might be a little much ti soend on a HS/f
My recommendation is the Noctua U12P
http://www.anandtech.com/casecooli [...] spx?i=3268 Clearly out performs most watercooling systems under the $200 line.
And not only that. Its also silent.
I built a pc for a friend and keeps his q6600 at 31-33 idle and never above 46 at load. (tat throttle test not prime95) Ambitient was 22-24 and the coolers was almost inaudible at all circumstances. (You know how those noctua fans are)
Fprgot to mention the q6600 is fully stable running at 3ghz at the above tests with 0.0125 v increase if i remamber correctly which i just did for stability. no actual lockups or anything.
Plus they only cost in the mid to upper $30 range. So these two cpu coolers are the best for 1st qtr. of 2008. Also OCZ has the Vendetta 2 out which has a 120mm fan. Oh and the OCZ vendetta series of cpu coolers', allow you do install it without taking the motherboard out of case.
You can not go wrong with either of these cpu coolers imho.
Depends how much money you want to spend, ive used the Arctic Freezer and Ultra120, arctic is cheap easy to install and give good performance. Ultra 120 is expensive doesnt come with a fan, harder to install but gives awesome performance

Finaly when I went shoping the only good thing they had in stock was the Zalman 9500.
After installing it im at around 51c.
Again thanks for the help
Is 51 your load temp or your idle temp? If thats load, then that's pretty good, if thats your idle, check to make sure you seated it right, because that's still too high.
