Hello and welcome to Tom's Hardware Forums.

Buy a legitimate copy and it will come complete with a valid Product Key. I suggest that since you're going to spend some money here, you go for Windows 7 and skip Vista completely. Don't buy online from e-Bay - they're often non-genuine copies - get a proper new one from a shop or Amazon.

Check the case or laptop for sticker with licence.

Or next time, use this to recover your old licence key.
