That 3dm06 score seems kinda low seeing as mine running at stock speed hit 18,128 with a mild OC to my QX9650 from 3GHz to 3.3GHz. In Quad SLI i scored close to 21,000 at stock settings. Thers alot of people that have OCed it from 600Mhz to 720Mhz running stable,so the GX2 is a good overclocker. nVidia has once again broken their promise on a good Quad SLI driver that was supposed to be released last week. I am still waiting for two 9800GTX's, so I have to wonder if the April 1st date will once again be pushed back.
http://www.tomshardware.com/2008/0 [...] page3.html And then there's the question of image quality. Even in games that do properly support SLI, the GeForce 8800GTX often outperforms the 9800GX2 when anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering are enabled at high resolutions. This is a weighty consideration in a system that's designed to provide the ultimate graphics quality; as a result, we might have picked the 8800GTX even if the 9800GX2 had been available at decision time.
well Nvidia said that they would release a good Final driver for quad SLI. Up untill this point, there is no game requiring that amount of power, which is why I didn't buy a second 9800 Gx2. They always improve their drivers and I have benchmarks to prove the increase in performance. Their main goal for the drivers now were to fix them from any problems that might inflict single performance. They will work on dual GPU as needed. Remember the Print screen problem from the Gx2's????
Thats what they fixed first
Give it time. It is the ultimate card to date.

The 9800gtx sounds like garbage. I think the the 8800gtx takes the 9800gtx head on and the cards like 2years old already. It would be smart if nvidia made the card 325$ or less. Is there anything im not aware of does the card have some new design in its core or something?
No, I never tried OCing my 2900XT. I have the cooling and the power, but no 8-pin power plug (I have 4 6-pins, but i have never seen a converter). Oh well, the thing already draws too much power.

It has better compression for greater thruput using a narrower bus. It has higher clocks, higher shader clocks, and higher memory clocks, will run cooler and hopefullyquieter than the 8800GTX, and should come in after awhile at a good price point

Looks like an immature driver issue to me for that kind of performance drop.
No doubt the GTX in SLI beats GX2, but what about the cost?

Its seems like a slightly overclocked 8800gts g92 to me.
Do you have a link that shows benchmark results or anything that shows a decent improvement over the 8800g92 core cards?

I've got all my parts for my new system except for the GPU now. I have to wait untill everything is released and some drivers come out and some benchies come out. I've decided not to SLI so I'm thinking when its all said and done the 9800 Gx2 is gunna be my new baby lol..
Anybody care to give a guess at how much the 9800 Gx2 price will drop after the rest of 9 series releases? or if at all :\

Well hopefully its priced at 300$. One thing i dont get isnt the gtx usually there flagship card why such low price and performance. i was hoping to spend my money on something alot faster then my 8800gts g92 but from reviews and rumors seems like it isnt going to be that much better. =[
what is wrong with you ... a gtx barely outperforms a gts... btw my single 8800 gts 640 often is on par or better than gtx... so i wouldn't get it... especially since the step up is costly for like a 2 - 7 % gain

Even a couple of almost two year old 8800GTX's SLI on mine also score over 18,000+ on 780iSLI motherboard Q6600 @ 3.6Ghz, with less cache than QX9650. Their 3dmark06 scores do seem a bit low I would agree.
And I see people argue the 8800GTS can match the performance of the GTX's for the most part but not at higher resolutions and the GTX's still OC much higher.

the 8800 GTS 640 is not on par with 8800 GTX. Maybe a fluke at low resolution, but not on high. The only G80 8800 GTS that was good were made by fatal1ty.

I continue to be impressed by my EVGA 8800 GTS 640's. For me, they perform way better than published benchmarks seem to indicate. And why are you listing your GX2 as having 1 gig of ram? You know better than that!
it does have 1 gig of ram. 512 per gpu. I think that since I know better, i can put either 512 or 1 gig. The box says 1 gig so I'm advertising the box.
I never stated that the 640 8800 GTS is bad. Don't get me wrong its a good card. I'm saying that its not on par with the GTX.
I had 2 8800 GTS 320. I was really happy with them. The only thing that really killed the performance was low ram.
I moved onto 9600 GT x's 2. Came out even. I sold the 8800s for 300$. bought the 9600 for 300.
Then i sold the 9600s and bought the 9800 GX2. I'll be honest I've never been happier. I'm getting blazing frame rates, double the amount in COD 4, same with unreal 3. Counter strike Source seems to be playing about the same, but I do see a difference in Gary's mod when I put alot of objects ons creen it doesn't lag as much.
I'm also playin Crysis at blazing frame rates, ofc in crysis that means everything very high at around 50-60. (sometimes I need to turnoff shadows)
anyways yeah

Yeah didn't mean to give you too much guff. I'm thinking of stepping up my mroe recently purchased GTS for a 9800 GTX and selling the other one for some SLi goodness. The game that scaled best for me in 8800 GTS SLi was ETQW, who woulda guessed?
