Guys I need your advice.

I want to upgrade my gfx card to 8800gt 512mb.
My pc specs:-
P4 530 3.0ghz ht
2GB DDR400
Sapphire x700pro 256mb gddr3
motherboard- Intel D915GAV
420Watt Thremaltake PSU

I know that my pc gonna bottleneck 8800gt but I will be upgrading my pc in about 6 months. So would it be sensible to upgrade my gfx card to 8800gt now or I should hold off and upgrade my whole rig altogether? (supply of 8800gt cards are pretty much tight in my country so I may not get it after 6 months!)

I'm also confused between 8800gt & hd3870. I want to play games like crysis, cod4, bioshock, etc. at 1024x800/1280x1024 resolution with AA/AF turned on. So which one would be best for the job?

Thanx...

i would wait. your other parts are 2 much of a bottleneck. and in 6 months. new cards will be out. prices will drop.

but if u really do wanna upgrade go the 88gt.

Right..

(1) i've used both the 3870 and the 8800gt at 1280x1024.... i can tell you the picture quality looks more 'lush' in Crysis... you wont find much noticeable difference while you're playing the game for the diff in fps would be about 4 to 5. Anyhow if you do play the game at higher resolutions the 8800GT wins by a notable margin.

(2)Yes there will be bottleneck ... you will definitely find a performance increase while playing games... but you wont be very happy while playing Crysis or Bioshock or any of the latest games. Forget about AA till you get the new rig.

(3) In six months time there'll be an arsenal of new GPUs and CPUs and motherboards and RAMS, PSUs, coolers....the lot. So yeah..wait if you can.

Or if you have to play now, go with the 3870 (since IMO the games looks 'lusher' at low res...and its cheaper.)

yeah that's what i did bought a new monitor 22 wide screen, and a 8800gt,whilst i picked up the rest of my upgrade "there's always new hardware in six months",,,the best most of us can do is make the best decision at the moment we decide to make our move,,,in any event ,,it seems that the best upgrade anyone could make would be to go quad core on a mobo that can take future 45nm cpu's,,the quad would offer current compatibility with all software and will be ready for multi threaded when it occurs, plus the q660 overclocks like there is no tomorrow,,,, and the mobo intel p35 or whatever,,,,would be ready for future cpu upgrades via 45nm...my $2,,,,,,,,,,inflation..:)
