bah, i'm stuck and cant decide which i want to pull the trigger on. its come to down either:

Seagate Barracuda ST31000528AS 7200.12 1TB ($109 shipped)

or

Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB ($100 shipped)

i'm basically going to be using it as a backup storage drive.

i know the WD black has great reviews, but since its going to be a backup storage drive, should i spend the extra 9 bucks for the unproven 2 platter hdd from seagate. i've been reading reviews and going back and forth in my mind, but havent been able to pull the trigger. would love to have some input from you guys.

thanks for the help,
blarg.

ok, ended up pulling the trigger on the WD 1TB black. i also am probably going to do some hdd switching around and might use it as my primary drive, then partition off a section of it for the system and use the rest for storage.

i currently run my system off a 7200.10 - 400gigs thats partitioned into a 100/300 ish

with a 7200.11 - 750gig used for storage

The 7200.12 would have been faster, but the WD is an excellent choice as well. I have the WD as a storage drive in my computer, and although it doesn't hold a candle to my main drive for speed (2x300GB velociraptors in RAID 0), it has performed excellently as a secondary, and is amazingly quiet too.
