Hello everyone, I've recently noticed that over the past few days to a week, my CPU's temperature has went from a stable 27° C to 34° C idle temperature. I know this does not seem like much, but I'm wondering why exactly it has increased so much.
My specs are in my profile, but some quick ones are:
Core 2 Duo E6750 (Stock 2.66Ghz, cooled by Arctic Freezer 7 Pro and AS5, with C1E enabled)
Case is Centurion 5 with an 80mm intake and 120mm exhaust.
The room and temperature here in northern Ohio has increased, but could this effect my computer so much?
My fan has been set since the day I built my computer to pwm, so it's running fast right now.
Do you guys know of any possible reason or solution to this?
As fangirl suggested, check your CPU heatsink, if it's been even just 6 months since you've built your system, it might be caked up with dust to the point where air flow is finally getting reduced.
Depending how dusty the area where your computer is... it doesn't take much... but even pet hair will get you.... pop the cover off you case and see how dirty everything is. Check fans and grates where air enters the case too, blow out with a can of air.
If that doesn't help, then you need to look elsewhere.
But remember too, 7C is equal to an increase of 12F, room temp could be part of the issue. Still only running at 93 deg F.
I think it's just the room temperature going up. That's a natural occurance, as there's less difference between ambient and heatsink temperatures. Clean it out as others suggested, if it doesn't help much, don't kill yourself over it. My ambient temp increased ~3c which made my idle temp go from 39c > 45c.
I agree with the above about the increase in ambient temp and possible dust, but don't replace the TIM. Leave the HS mounted. As said, the temps are still good.
I use a vacuum cleaner. Yeah I know, it's not recommended, ESD etc. I don't get overly zealous, just the bottom of the case and the heatsink and case fans etc. I don't do it very often anyway, only when it starts to get nasty.
No wand brush either, that would be foolish, I use the crevice tip.
I use an air compressor. Just make sure it has a regulator, you do not want to push 120psi over a board....30-40 is normally more then enough(at the right distance).
I have used a shop vac to clean computers too without issue(just watch the suction)
The garage is a good place since the dust is gonna fly if you use a compressor or can of compressed air(available at most office supply stores.)
