Network keeps dropping

Hi, my network drops about every 5mins and I am constantly having to repair the connection. The thing is, the Wireless Network Connection program says that I'm connected the whole time. This has been going on for several months and I'm starting to get damn pissed especially since I do play CORPGs. I have several other computers on the same network but it's only mine that does it. Could the network card be bad? I know its over 3years old but....I don't know. Please help me.

Inevitably with wireless you must consider signal strength and interference. The other computers are presumably located at least slightly differently.

I would start by checking for neighbouring wireless routers and change to a channel 5 stops from the strongest ones. If no other routers, at least try the other channels -- some may work less well in your environment.

Raise your router above furniture level. Try moving the computer close to the wall nearest the router's location (rather than in the middle of the room).

Relocate cordless phone base or video sender away from the computer or router.

I know this is lame, but it's worth checking -- see if the wireless adapter has a power saving setting and make sure it's disabled.

Only if they have the same model of wireless adapter and those have power save option -- I only mentioned it because my adapter has power save.

It would be worth swapping in an adapter from one of the other computers and see if that cures it -- if so buy a new adapter.

Personally, if I was playing games a lot, I'd dump wireless if possible and (if ethernet isn't an option) look at Homeplug mains wiring network adapters.

its because i had a particular website on all the time and it was constantly refreshing and overloading the adapter. >.>;
