I have a Q6600 on an eVGA 680i board and I want to overclock it to at least 2.8-3 Ghz. I read the nvidia overclocking pdf manual which basically says to disable all of the power saving options and things like that. The only thing it doesn't mention is setting the PCI express frequency to 100 MHz. I know that I did this on my P35 board, and I wanted to know if I should also do this on the 680i board. I would think I should, but no mention was made in the manual so I wanted to double check.

It should default to 100mhz anyways. 680i OCing is extremely easy, since you don't have to worry about dividers. Just unlink, and adjust accordingly. Make sure you disable speedstep, ect. Also disable Spread Spectrum.

What type of 680i are you using?

I'm using the EVGA 680i SLI Rev A1

i'm also using the EVGA board... the only reason I asked about the PCIe frequency was because in the sticky for this forum it mentioned setting the speed to 100 since overclocking the FSB can also raise the PCIe frequencies and short the card. Any truth to this, or should I just let it go at auto?

I haven't seen the PCIe frequency raised with any Nvidia board that I have. It's set to 100 and even at 4ghz, PCIe does not moved. You should be fine so long as its at 100, and not on "auto".
