Hello,

I`m changing my computer to go grom a core 2 duo 6600 on a p5n32 with 4gb 800 mhz to a core 2 duo 8500 on a p5e ws pro with 4gb 1600 mhz.

What I`m not sure is the Graphic card. I have a 8800 Gts 640mb. I wonder if I should get an other 8800 Gts and go Sli, get a new card like the 9800 gx2 or gtx ??

My resolution only goes up to 1680 by 1050 most of the time.

What do you guys think would be the best for gaming?

Tanks

Well going from E6600 to E8500 is not really worth it IMO.
You graphics card if fine for that res for now but if you really want more performance, getting another GTS would be the best option here as they are going for only $200 right now. That should give you very good performance.

If you forget about price, what would be the stongest,  getting an other 8800 640 gts to do sli or getting a new card like the 9800 gx2 or the 9800 gtx (but those would not be in Sli  :D )

Thanks

The 9800s are hopeless cards....you're better off with 8800GT or GTS. But then its a perplexing problem..to SLI GTS 640 or to get a single 8800GTS. The logical reasoning is to SLI your existing rig...but i havent seen any benchmarks. Anyways don't get the 9800...

My GTS 640 is fine for all current games at 1440x900, I plan on going SLI for cheap to get 1920x1200 will all filters at full.

Another GTS will save you a lot of money, and should be fine for that res. 8800GT/GTS in SLI is better, but probably not worth the cash for the boost in performance.

I'm in the same boat, I can't make up my mind. If I go for a new card I can sell my old card making it a really cheap upgrade. I figure I can upgrade for around 100.00 or spend 200.00 and go SLI, decisions...decisions...

Ya samething , I can sell my 8800 gts 640 mb and get a new one for about 200 or get a new 8800 Gts 640 for about 300$ (I live in Canada so cards cost more and website like newegg wont ship to Canada).

So for me to go with 2 8800 GTS 640mb in Sli or one 9800 G** would be pretty much the same amount of money so im not sure what to choose  :pt1cable:

About 500$ for a 8800GTX 768mb
And the 8800GTS 640mb is about 50-80$ less

What about the 9800? All things being equal, the 9800GTX has HD decode, itll handle that res easily, and like I said, you can at some point go sli with another, and you can bet itll be cheaper when you do

8800GTS 640MB SLI is better than 9800GTX and 8800GTX but it is NOT better than 9800GX2.

Finaly I might just sell the 8800gts and get 2 9800 gtx in Sli. That would be better then the Gx2 if im right?

^ Would be better than the gx2...but not worth the money. Two 8800GTS (G92) IMO is a loads better deal.

Well 2x9800GTX and 1xGX2 should be equal as a GX2 already beats G92 GTS SLI.

^ Yeah but for what price....$600.....9800GTsuX / GsuX2 is a load of bitter tasting stuff. ........ The 8800GT is a powerful performer for that price...in my honest opinion it is by all means the very best card out there at the moment....you should've seen the rate at which ppl bought it when it released :)

in all honesty i would wait until the 9 series refresh or 10 series to get a new card. The jump in performance is not worth the price. If you absolutely cant wait just sli your current card. Your processor is fine, if you want more performance out of it do a mild oc to 2.8-3.0 ghz. An oc like that should keep you running well for at least a couple years.

8800gts 640 in SLI all the way! the new 9800's are not worth the money especially when nvidia is gonna put out the "real" new stuff later this year.

but hey, if you got money like that and want to be tha pimp of your block "NOW" then by all means 9800gx2 all the way!

don't hate the player. hate the game.

^^ I would agree with eviltwin17.

Not worth the price to upgrade either piece of hardware.
You should be able to overclock your GTS fairly easialy and your E6600 even easier to get a good, free performance boost.
OC and wait for hardware with real improvments.
