Well tomarrow I am going to order a Power Supply for my new rig , which configuration is :
E8400 -> OC up to 4
2 * 8800GT SLI ( probably I am going to OC them )
4 Gig 1066 Ram
one 500+ HDD SataII ( mabe one another in near feature )
680i MainBoard ...
What Power shold I choose ?
700 ? 800 ? 1000 ?
I realy wanna avoid power lack !
Thanks in Advance
680i will not let you reach 4ghz on e8400. You need 780i or better to have a chance. X38/48 guarantees 4ghz, but don't support sli, only crossfire. 700watt psu with good 12v ratings should be more than enough, although it doesn't hurt to have headroom for possible future upgrades.
dagger is correct. My 680i board's FSB tops out at 450 MHz. And that is at REALLY high MCP temperatures - 85 C. or so. That means about the best you can expect is 3.8 GHz. Edit - today, I seem to be math challenged. 450 X 9 = 4.05 GHz. you might be able to reach 4 GHz, but like I said, your MCP temps are going to be high.
Some of the Gigabyte boards are supposed to be able to run with FSB set to 600 MHz.
8 amps at 3.3 volts - memory
5 amps 5 volts - digital logic motherboard and drives.
With no thought for future expansion, a good 550 w PSU with a heavy 12 volt rail would work. With this configuration, I estimate that a 550 w PSU would be running at about 80 - 90% capacity.
Add 20% for Mr. Murphy and you are looking for a 650 - 750 watt PSU. I do not like to heavily load a PSU.

---------------
Overclocking since 1978: TRS80, 1.77 MHz Z80 to 2.01 MHz.
get a GOOD name, like hiper, enermax, seasonic, Akasa, coolermaster...
not brand X
what with the ultra faggy colours and bold fonts.
