Right, I had this 3.5" Maxtor 250GB disk. I had an old system which I used Linux on but use the Maxtor for storage. One day when swapping this disk out of my system for a new one it fell and one of the chips underneath has a literally chipped off. Ever since when trying to switch my pc on with the drive in it switches off straight away..is there any way I can either take out the disks/platters put em into a new drive or bring it back to life?...sori for the noob-ness. Need to the information of it, like some crazy personal videos. :sarcastic:

Assuming the only damage was to the controller board it should be possible to buy the exact same drive & model, and swap controller boards. This assumes the only damage was to the controller board and you cna find the same drive for sale somewhere.

ohhh so shouldn't even have to open up the drive either?

oh and does that mean, it has to be exact same model? :P

Yes. Should be. if not, reduces the odds of it working.
