I just put together my first build and I just want to check a few things out and get some opinions. Here is what I got.
Super-WriteMaster Dual/Double Layer 20x DVD±RW Burner
150GB Raptor Hard Drive
500GB SATA2 Hard Drive
(2)EVGA GF8800GT Super Clocked
Intel BX38T mother board
ULTRA X3 800W PSU
Antec 900 Case
Q6600
4GB Corsair XMS-1333 DDR3 Ram
I just wanted to know if that power supply would be enough with all the case fans and the 2 cards sli'd.
Also, I read that the 8800's get really hot but I am not sure if it was that brand or an earlier model. Will I need more cooling or will I be ok? Thanks

Just so you know you can't run those cards in SLI (If you're planning to)
on that motherboard.Change it to a 790i if you want good overclocking and SLI.The cooling on the GT's should be sufficent if you crank it up but I would advise you look at the 8800GTS (G92).It offers better cooling and better performance (About 10% better).Instead of the GTS you could get an EVGA
8800gt AKIMBO.If you want to overclock your Q6600 then get an aftermarket cooler like a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme or a Tuniq Tower 120.
Would I be able to run SLI GTS's on that board I already have selected? What is AKIMBO? I do not plan on overclocking as of now, but maybe later on. Also will that power supply be able to handle the computer? Thanks again.
So I am probably going to have to go with the 790i if I want DDR3 Ram? Also will that power supply suffice? And for lets say, crysis, what would you guys reccomend, GTS's or GT's sli'd? Thanks again for your help.
Here's my 2 cents on your proposed build:
* Ultra PSU's have had some interesting past issues. Not 100% sure they are out of that, but I remember reading somewhere that the 600w+ X3's are much better. I'd go with a PCP&C 750w Quad or Corsair 620w PSU for your proposed build.
* I'd personally not do SLI or Xfire right now, because of the cost and the minimal benefits that you get with them (unless your using pretty high resolutions).
* DDR3 isn't really that much of improvement for the $. You'd be better off with DDR2 with CAS 4 timings than any DDR3, IMHO.
* Raptor HD's are pretty over-rated/over-priced right now. Newer HD's have come out that are pretty close to Raptors at lower prices and higher capacities.
* X38/X48 mobo's are pretty spendy for minimal improvement on a p35 based mobo. I'd get a Gigabyte DS3R/Abit IP35/Asus P5k based mobo's WAAAY before I'd get any X38/X48 mobo. The cost difference I'd use towards a better GPU solution (single card for me). Unless your pushing the 19x12 resolutions or greater, I'd stick with single card solutions (i.e. 3870x2 or 9800 gx2 for the latest bad boys). It would be smarter to buy a 3870, 8800gt, 8800gts (g92), 3870x2, or a 9800 gx2 right now than spend additional $ on mobo/PSU/GPU's.
So my summary is as follows:
CPU - q6600/e8400/e3110
Mobo - p35 based one
RAM - DDR2 CAS 4 stuff (4-4-4-12) with at least 2 gb's or even 4 gb's.
GPU - Get the best single card GPU you can afford (8800gt/gts, 3870x2, or 9800 gx2)
HD's - get the latest higher capacity HD's out, they are nearly as fast as Raptors and have usually 2-4x the capacity of a comparable Raptor drive.
PSU - By sticking with a single card solution you drastically drop your power bill and also require a lower cost PSU at the same time. I'd go with a Corsair vx 550w/tx 650w, PCP&C 610 Silencer, Antec NeoHE 550w, which all are around the $100 mark, depending on MIR's too.
Case - Antec 900 you selected is a very sound decision there
So you can make your decision on which way to go. Do your research and save yourself time/money in the process, which your already doing by coming to this forum with ?'s. I'm not an expert, but I've done alot of research in the last 2 years or so, so hopefully my suggestions make some sense.
