I have been using a USR 2977 Modem (56K)for some time AT ANOTHER LOCATION and consistently attained speeds of 44-48 Kbs. Recently I moved to a rural location where the telephone line to the house, although new, is a very long run. I now cannot attain speeds greater than 12 Kbs. The phone company, after checking the line, tells me that is the best that can be achieved because of the line length and the modem that I'm using. Can anyone tell me if there is a modem manufactured which may better my connection speed under these circumstances? DSL is obviously not available at this location and neither is Cable. My only non dialup alternative appears to be Direct Tv's $600/$60 month rip-off satellite package.

Thanks, Bill.
