I recently ordered components for my new rig and the PSU (Corsair TX750W) came earlier than the mobo, CPU and GPU's (some back ordered) so I decided I'd install it into my case and plug in some fans to see what the noise level will be, I flipped the switch and... nothing happened.
My noob question is: Does a PSU have to be plugged into a motherboard in order to actually be turned on or is my Corsair DOA?
I first thought it might be DOA when the PSU fan itself did not turn on when I flipped the back switch, but I then read about the fan being thermally controlled, so I figured it wasn't warm and thus didn't need to be turned on... but not running fans... it should do that right? I'd just like to know so I can RMA it before my other products get here.
It either has to be plugged into a board, or have specific pins jumpered to complete the power circuit. Do a Google search for it, I'm sure you will find it quite easily. I have done this many, many times to fill my watercooling system. I found this pretty easily; make sure you get the right pins or you will burn up your PSU.

Thanks a bunch.
Like Rubix says you can jump the pins the pins you need are 4 and 6 on a 20 pin atx psu it will work on a 24 pin as well if you are not sure you are looking for GREEN AND BLACK ( the black is the Ground)
I can test a PSU by jumping 3 & 4, green and black. Unit will come on without being plugged into anything, but I haven't tried this with a new unit, just crap I'm checking for problems.
