Hi, the topic says it all. Which GPU gives the best overlock for around $100-$150? I was thinking of getting a Radeon 4850 but those run really hot, so I don't think they could overclock really well with stock fan.

well imo cheap overclocks = 8800GT, high performance still 4850, i think both of em oc'd max would still mean 4850 wins.. just. depends what games adn res you're playing at.

in other words, price/performance 8800GT ftw, but if you really are after high performance, i would go with the 4850.

Thanks for the reply.. Maybe I'll go with the 8800GT since it runs cooler than a 4850. I'm kinda worried about the temperature of 4850 cause reviews showed that it runs around 65C.

I wanted to upgrade my old desktop to Intel Core i7 for around $800 and this is what I found so far.

In GPU land, 65c means you can just take off your sweater, in other words that is barely getting warm. The 8800GT you are looking will run just as hot, if not hotter. If you MUST get an 8800GT, but sure to get one that is dual slot that will exhaust air out of the case.
IMHO, if you are thinking of getting an 8800GT, get instead a 8800GTS 512meg G92 like I have. It will overclock 125mhz over stock and run perfectly fine, (and fast) and, they are dual slot cards with excellent cooling.

For my final 2 cents, I say just get the 4850.

i would say get a 8800GTS or 9800GTX which is dual slot so you get cooler and quieter cooling hence higher OC.specially the 55nm G92 will OC like hell and smoke the 4850.

I overclocked my 2x 8800GT SLI to 700 core, 1800 shaders and 1050 memory and adjusted the fan speed manually so my temps are actually lower than before (when stock), and they are single slot. If you go dual slot and adjust your fan manually you will likely get decent temps.
