I own (2) EVGA 8800GT Superclocked. I am about to build a machine next month, and was wondering if I can add a 3rd 8800GT since the mobo in my new system is capable of tri-sli(EVGA 790i), or should I just go through the step up program that EVGA has, and get 2 fancier cards? Prices have come down on the same card I have, and that would be my cheapest route, but if it's not gonna help out my performance than why bother. By the way my new system will be OC'ed, and have coolers. The only reason I want more performance is because I just got a beautiful Gateway FHD2400 monitor(24"), and dammit I wanna run the settings as high as possible. I play mainly FPS. Please share your opinion.

Stick with the dual 8800gt's, also they don't support triple sli even if your motherbord does. I don't think the step-up program applies to cards that are higher-end than the previous cards anyway. If it does you could get 2 9800GTX's in sli and get a little better performance than a 9800GX2 for about the same price but the differance between the 8800GTs will most likely not make a big differance or worth the upgrade.

I believe the whole point of the step-up program is to get higher end cards... though idk about cross generation upgrades.
