Matshita DVD RAM UJ-850S ATA Device not working

When I look for my DVD CD icon in "My Computer" the icon is no longer there. The little blue light that used to be visible
at the drawer itself, no longer illuminates. when I use regular means to check on this the report back from my computer says that my driver is up to date. How can I get my HP Pavilion dv9000 to recognize the DVD drawer again?

Disk Management: Is a drive letter assigned ?

Recent Windows update that may have updated the driver ?
Use device manager and roll back the driver to previous version.
