Hi,

I posted here about a week ago about some problems i was having with a start
up error.

I followed some advice - and managed to find that the issue was caused by
zcfgsvc.exe - an intel wiresless configuration utility.

Now I am trying to work out if there is likely to be any long term damage,
loss of productivity or anything that could occur by having this service not
started.

If anyone has experience with this, I would appreciate your feedback and
assistance.

Doug

Windows XP support Wireless Zero Configuration. You don't need the Intel configuration/control software. To let Windows manage the wireless settings, right click My Network Places and select Properties. Right click your wireless connection and select Properties. On the Wireless Networks tab, check the box Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings. Use the settings here to configure your wireless connection.

Thanks Doug

I was hoping that this was the case. I have been having problems with error
messages such as

"Windows cannot find '/idlist,:520:1592,'. Make sure you typed the name
correctly, and then try again. to search for a file, click the start button
and then click search".

and Alan Edwards suggested that this finding and disabling the service that
caused the problem. I didnt want to bother him so much with my issues - he
was very helpful already. With Zcfgsvc disabled the message doesnt occur.

I like your website. My XP help facilitity is the site that Alan is part
of, Kelly's Corner and yours. Keep up the good work - you provide a
valuable service to users.

Alan

A rainy day in tassie must be better than most days in canberra. Apart from
today that is, the weather was like heaven on the golf course - but hell on
my score card.

Once again, can't thank you guys enough for your help

Cheers

Doug

You're welcome, Gordon. Glad to help. :-) I just spent a good part of a day trying to convince my company's IT department of this very thing. They insist that XP needs a 3rd party client to initialize the wireless connection, before a user logs on.
