The Toshiba p200 1jc with an ATI HD 2600 hypermemory (256 ram) The Hp Pavilion dv9725e with an Nvidia 8600 GS (512 ram)
Those two have exactly the same specs (250 Go 2Go Ram T5420 @1.6ghz) and where i live are at the same price.
My needs are to play latest games like Oblivion , Stalker, Witcher, FEAR etc... at a good frame rate in 1024*768 (i prefer lesser resolution but great frame rate) and if possible high graphic quality.
My question is simple : What GPU is better?
P.S: i have a little inclination towards the Nvidia but according to that forum it is way under the ATI 2600 which is close to the 8600 GT not GS. On the other hand lot of people around me have problems with their ATI for compatibility driver update graphic errors ingame etc... So i m little sceptic towards ATI... do I have to?
err...neither will let you run with details on high, maybe combination of low and medium.
the M8600 series is the same, the GS is just lower clocked. I would vouch for the one that has GDDR3, if you can, find out which (maybe both) have GDDR3 instead of 2.
Laptops and gaming dont really mix too well, each sacrficing its strong points to give you a "stuck in the middle" result.
No both are DDR2. I know laptop gaming isn t the best choice but since a must have a laptop for my new job...
Where i live there aren't better choices in terms of laptop's GPU = no GT no XT !!! Nothing those two are the best in the market so that s why i'm asking which is the best to choose...
The 8600M GS is crippled by only having 16 shader units as compared to the 8600M GT's 32. The HD2600 on the other hand, has all 120 shaders from the desktop part. I'd recommend the 2600, but that's just me.
As lightbody mentions the GS is crippled, the HD 2600 is better in general.
Even when it's GDDR3 , the GS doesn't stack up.
The GT is the competitor to the HD2600 and there it does matter GDDR2 vs GDDR3 as to which to pick, the GF8700MGT is usually the best in class.
In general; GF8700M>HD2600XT>HD2600GDDR3>GF8600MGTGDDR3>HD2600GDDR2>GF8600GTGDDR2>GF8600MGSGDDR3/2
However it does also depend on the apppliction, and also overclocking moves around the goal posts for the middle solutions.

--------------- You need a license to buy a gun, but they'll sell anyone a stamp (or internet account) - REDGREEN. GA to SK HD Freedom: 45 5F E1 04 22 CA 29 C4 93 3F 95 05 2B 79 2A B2
But i'm sceptic towards the ATI HD 2600 because i hear and see people around complain about drivers, graphic problems, black screens etc... Is there a stable driver now?
