PSU SMOKIN!

so i just got all my new stuff from newegg. put it all together. plug it in, and hit the power button, but nothing happend. nothing at all. so i double check and triple check everything, make sure i have it all plugged in right now no matter what nothering happens. so then my friend tells me to try another wall outlet and when i do, i hit the power button and the only thing that turns on is the LEDs. then the pus starts smokin like crazy! so am i right to assume its the PSU and not anytinhg else? the psu is a Corsair tx650w.

Sounds like a rare dud.

Send it back and request a replacement.

Can't really tell if it killed anything or not until you get another power supply to test the stuff with. Hopefully it didn't take anything with it.

Hard to say without installing another PSU.

Considering it is a high quality PSU, I would say all your other parts should be fine.

Did you mount your mobo on the brass standoffs, or screw it directly to the case? Before just putting in another PSU, you'll want to be certain there are no obvious shorts.

at first i had it on the case, then i realized i had the standoffs and then i mounted it to the standoffs. are there any other "obvious" shorts to look for?

Yes, rma it. Rma your house too while you're at it. (Does anyone else find it odd how it worked, ie blew up, in one outlet but not the other?)
