PC can't see compact flash card

Hi
Why can't my pc see my compact flash card (connected via CF card Reader), that is through my computer. I have tried different usb ports, but still not joy. However the strange thing is when going to the safely remove hardware option the device is there?? It cannot be a dodgy card or reader as i have two of each, swapped them around etc. Any ideas?

Well first, is your CF formatted?
Then (and what is your OS), what does the Disk Management show?

It's probably there but either hasn't been assigned a drive letter or the assigned letter conflicts with another device; look in Disk Management.
