I think my 9800gx2 is running too hot, the idle temps are 50-60 on one core and 60-70 on the other, is this normal, when playing crysis it goes up to about 70 degrees. I checked on gpu-z that my video card fanspeed stays at 45% how do i adjust that, i can't use ntune cuz i don't have nforce mobo.

I own two of them, and the temps your getting is normal for the 9800GX2. You could always by a PCI cooling booster from CoolIt Systems. $14-$18 It lowered my both of my cards temps by 6c-8c

Then why am showing these wierd things when playing crysis, all high 2-4x AA 1680x1050 i sometimes see these multi colored triangles twice the size of the buildings for no reason, they don't disappear, i'm not sure if their artifacts. My PC also lags badly after Crysis and it also makes wierd noises. How do i turn up the gpu fan speed it only runs at 45% ?

I don't want to burn out my video card since it was quite expensive, i have done no overclocking and the video card is the only piece of hardware thats running really hot. Does the artifacts i see in crysis mean its overheating?

Download RivaTuner it should work with any setup. On the front page of the app click the triangle next to "ForceWare detected    customise...". Then click on the first icon, system settings. Click on the tab which says "Fan" and change the top drop down box from auto control to direct control. From there you can set the fan speed on all three types of rendering. If you want to keep the settings then check the "Apply at startup..." box and apply your settings. If you want to check for artifacting and your GPU temps then download "ATITOOL", it doesn't matter if you use it for you Nvidia card as i use it for mine. It allows you to overclock and if you click the button "Scan for artifacts" you can see how stable the 9800 GX2 really is....

I don't see why your having the problems, you might have gotten a defective card.

1- Drivers up to date? 174.74?
2- Video card plugged in properly in it's socket?
3- Screen shot of the triangles?
4- What version of Crysis?

My card will artifact, but only if I overclock too much, Crysis seems to be particularly sensitive to overclocks.

So wait, 'in case the worst happens' means your computer might shut off? Well, when that happens to me, I reboot.

I am using a 740w PSU it can't be underpowered. I've already use rivatuner to set my fans to 100% and the card runs cool at 40-50degrees. But i think my card is already too damaged because when i ran the crysis gpu benchmark it lagged so badly and i saw a lot of wierd artifacts and stuff.I've only ahd the card for 2 days can i get a replacement ?

Cuz i set the fan settings to 100%, is that allowed, i don't think thats overclocking.

no lol overclocking would be if your pushing the circuit past what it was desinged to achieve. The fan is completely irrelevant to the warranty.

do u only get artifacts when overheating? I used ATI tool to scan for artifacts and i went to eat dinner when i came back the scan for artifacts thing had gone grey had said 40minutes so does this mean it found an artifact? This is on stock clocks and the temps never got past 70degrees so why would the test stop?

No clue to be honest. Do you have the lastest drivers? I'd suggest trying the latest drive and after try returning it for a new 1. The longer you wait, the harder it will be to return it:) they might ask you more questions
