I bought my PC 2nd and it came with a really big heatsink and fan for the CPU (I'm not sure exactly who makes it, but it extended horizontally nearly all the way to the side of case). I want to keep the unit if it will transfer to a new Phenom x4 processor like the 9550.

CPU Type DualCore AMD Athlon 64 X2, 2200 MHz (11x220) 4200+
Motherboard Name MSI K8N Neo4 Series (MS-7125)

Many heatsink (HSF) come with mounting brackets for multiple socket. If you have no "spare parts" or instructions for your's, then you probably cannot use it on other sockets. If you know the brand of the HSF, you can try contacting them or search online, some also sell replacement mounting parts for various sockets.

Honestly I would not bother, as there are many better coolers on the market for a good price.
($30 or less)

Without knowing what kind of heatsink you have you don't know if it will really cool that Phenom any better than the stock unit. Anyway if you buy the retail CPU you can unscrew the fans and swap the clips so that you can use that crazy heatsink on your new Phenom.

Skt 939 and AM2 use the same mounting solution, so yes, it will fit.

Will it work? Well now thats another argument...

Ok, I got some more info on the heat sink maybe you could confirm what model it is and if it'll do the job for a 9550. It says thermalright on the top of the heat sink, arctic cooling fan attached to it. It has the shape of the Ultra 120 series.
