I am new to this so this is probably an easy question. I have the Intel 945 chipset and, would like to upgrade to a card or a better chipset. I have looked a lot and can not find info. So any help would be great.

So you are looking at upgrading your video card?.... They are not dependant on your chipset unless you are looking at running 2+ cards in SLI or Crossfire. You will need to know if your board supports AGP or PCI-E for starters.

I have an HP dv 6000 laptop. I thank it takes PCI-E. But its hard to find info on what board I have, and it being a laptop I thank it will be harder to find out.

Run CPUZ/GPUZ and post screen shots. CPUZ/GPUZ should tell what socket you have.

A laptop does not take a regular GPU. There are very few high end gaming laptops with the possibility to upgrade the GPU. I do believe that HP dv6000 is not one of them.

As rolli59 said, HP does not use either AXIOM or MXM from what I've read on their laptops, so you're out of luck on upgrading the graphics.

I found the answer on notebookreview.com. If you have an integrated graphics processor it's impossible to upgrade.

How about an external video card - here's one if they ever find a fast enough interface solution: http://tech.yahoo.com/blog/null/11883 This started quite a buzz last year but haven't seen anything actually happen.

This expert says that "some guy" has one but then insists on jackin his jaws until everyone falls asleep: I really don't know what he's talking about since I coulnd't watch the whole thing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FnHg-k8N3Y (yawwwn)

Here's one that has a GPU: http://www.cinemassivedisplays.com/index.php?a=4

We might see some excitement when PUMA is released later this year but again, waiting for a fast enough interface.
