what psu for this rig?

hi,
i'm thinking about this rig, but what psu i'll need for it?
xtreem calc showed 514W, with fans, usb, SB card & LCS kit.

Q9550 OC to the highest i can get without adding Vcore.
4GB ram 800mhz OCd to ~1000.
2 HDDS WD 750 aaks & 250aaks.
2 VGA cards, for now 2x9800gtx but will see what will come in june-july.
Kandalf/Armor LCS
1x dvd burner.

is a 850W will do the job? how about 750W that for now is a lot cheaper... 1000W+ is really expansive.

I ran you through a pro version of xtreme and you'll need to find something with at least 45amps spread over the 12v Rails. I've been having all sorts of power supply fun lately so definitely read the PSU FAQ and find something with at least 45amps on the 12v, but you'll need more than that if you want to go beyond those 9800's

know brand name 750 w should get job down, pc power and cooling 750w is decent one.

Two 8800GTX Ultra cards in SLI is the most power consumptive setup you can get. A good quality Corsair 750 watt PSU will run the Ultras with no problems. The 9800 GTX cards are more power efficient than the Ultras so the corsair psu will do fine.

I have two 8800GTX ANS3 cards that are almost as power consumptive and I just installed a brand new Corsair 750 watt psu yesterday and it is perfect. No modular cables, but they are nicely wrapped and fairly easy to hide.

This PSU will do fine with that setup.

This is the one that I wanted to buy but wasnt avalable until after I bought mine, of course. Im using the 780i motherboard and may consider going to 3 cards later and wanted this one for that setup:

It is very expensive but that is what you get into when you need very specific components for a special hardware configuration.

I got my 750 watt psu at Microcenter, it was priced normally 179.99 on sale for 144.99 with a 45.00 mir making it 99.99.

Not a bad deal!

P.S. The 750 watt has 60Amp on the 12v rail and 3amps for the 5 volts.

The 750 watt corsair should handle it, but for 2 9800GX2s you may want to go even higher to support future upgrades/additions.

hearing that Corsair 750W can do the trick with 60A in 1 12v Rail... this is cool...
Enermax 850W got only 68A & i don't think the pref difference worth the price difference.

i think i'll go to Nvidia's 3way Certified & buy one of those...
not for the 3way option i won't have but for the energy & not stress too much the PSU so it will live longer...

it is also very hot in my room in the summer so...

The FSP Everest 1010w is rated for 1010 watts @25c but only 850 watts @40c and has poor voltage regulation and doesn't even comply with industry standards.
I would stick with the Corsair TX750 it has a 5 year warranty and it has great voltage regulation but does not have modular cabling.

i don't think i need all the connection.
i really liked the Corsair 750 but it is not modular= a lot of cables that i don't need. that is pretty messy.
plus, it's the most expensive 750W.
plus a 100$ more i can get a TT 1200W. it will live longer...

i need to think if i'm going with Dual VGA card or one very strong one.
coz if i'm staying with one VGA that means the 750W is excelent + MB cheaper & maybe even not go with LCS.
that means a lot less money...
i'll give it a month.
it's between 2000$ to 1200$ rig i thinkg...

That PSU is not very good, way too much amperage on the 3.3x and 5v and not much on the 12v.

The PC Power and Cooling is the absolute best 750w on the market, it sucks for cable management but is the most reliable. Spend an extra half-hour with your cable management job and just buy the PC P&C, you wont have to worry about your system.

It has the exact same number of amps on the 12v rails as the corsair, and 750 silencer. It also has better efficiency than the PCP&C unit due to better 12v rail regulation. (the only benefit of multiple rails vs single). Don't just spew out blind statements like that, especially when they are not true.

None of the three are even close to bad PSUs but modular cabling makes cable management much much easier.

Anandtech gave the Xigmatik a very nice review.

Plus, the Silencer 750 is louder, has the old style crappy molex connectors, and its red...

To the OP, do you have a link to the store you are purchasing your PSU from so that we can see exactly what is available to you?

Can you get Zalman PSUs?

Hi!
I too am looking for a PSU in the 750 W area, and I really, really need some help picking one out.
I will be running 2x XFX 8800GTX video cards on a Striker II motherboard and have three SATA drives connected. The Corsair and Xigmatek PSUs previously posted both look good, but then people start throwing around the name Zalman, which I know have a good reputation.
My computer-assembling skillz are above average, but I know virtually nothing about electricity, so I really need your help here. Any recommendations for my particular rig?

you can go to Nvidia's site, in the SLI zone go to Certified PSU & check for 8800gtx SLI certified PSUs.

the models are from good companies & with high standards.
choose from them according to how much you are willing to spend on a PSU.

for my opinion choose ones from the 9800GX2 SLI certified or 3way SLI 88gtx- so in a year or so you won't have to change your PSU & it will live more because it will not be at a high stress.

for example, if a 88gtx needs 750W i woudn't buy less than 850W.

a good PSU is a good investment for couple or more rigs you'll built.
that is my opinion.

but the $$$ is a major factor....

also read some reviews about the PSUs you'll like to buy. it helps a lot!

Thanks for your advice, and, trust me, I have done a lot of reading up on power supplies over the past few days.
I doubt I'll have to do any major rig upgrades in the near future, though, so I'm getting the 750 W Corsair. The modular Xigmatek would have been nice, but according to NVIDIA I'd have to get the 1000 W version to be on the safe side, and that's $100 more than the 750 W.
