If you install an aftermarket cooler but don't cover the ram with heatsinks for only a short time (a few days at most) will that cause any problems? ie.. damage the card?

Most DRAM modules do not need heatsinks

^Agreed. Most high performance DDR2 800 and up now comes with heatsinks.
