Now that I have my q9550 at 3.6ghz stable at 1.36v in BIOS, is it safe to leave it at that 24/7. Will having it 3.6ghz shorten lifespan? should i just take it back to 3.4ghz?

Thanks for the help.

I wouldn't use much more voltage as your approaching the high end of what that processor was designed to handle 24/7. You should get 3 to 5 years (maybe more), as long as your not shutting down due to heat all the time.

Is 1.36v the lowest you can go on that o/c?

If you haven't tried it. I'd recommend dropping the vcore bit by bit and stability testing as you go. I'm pretty certain you'll get a stable 3.6GHz at way less that 1.36v.

Your CPU will thank you if you give it less power.

You don't have a good cpu...

Its requiring too much voltage for that overclock.... your temps are good... and you'll probably be ok... but... thats seriously too much voltage for that overclock...

I'm running vcore 1.25 right now on a 3.85 ghz overclock on my q9550... theres no way you'll need 1.36 for 3.6 ghz...

i tried lower but it kept BSODing when i tried to Intel Burn Test. I kept upping it and testing till i got stable. then i got to the point where it didnt BSOD and i ran 20 passes on Intel Burn Test, OCCT for an hr, and 14 hours of Prime95.

Do you think my ram has anything to getting lower voltages?

CPUZ shows 1.34v. I know im within the safe zone, but before shooting for 3.6ghz i was at 3.4ghz at 1.275v Bios(1.23v CPUZ)

The fact that you can get it stable by upping the vcore and nothing else, would indicate this is not a RAM problem.

Not all dies are created equal. Given that you had to increase the vcore substantially to go from 3.4GHz to 3.6GHz might just indicate the limit for that chip.

I have the same scenario with my dual core. Anything over 3.8Ghz and the cooling and vcore requirements increase exponentially (figuratively anyway, it's probably not an actual exponential, but you get the idea).

Ok I need my chip to last me a few years. Do you guys at this point think i should leave it at 3.4ghz at 1.27v or keep it at 3.6ghz at 1.36v. I know the recommended voltage for q9550 is 1.36, and even tho i have it set to that actual reading is 1.34v from vdroop.

so do i keep it as is or lower it back to 3.4ghz?

and thankyou all for helping me out.

Thanks a lot guys, I will be taking it down to 3.4ghz. Not worth the extra volts. Its good to know that i can go to 3.6 in the future if the need be. Thanks again for everyone's help.

I'd drop it back the few hundred MHz to get the lower volts too, especially if you would pass the CPU on to someone else as a freebie when you're done with it - I do this all the time for friends/family, otherwise I might leave it high.
