Hey all, I got my Opteron 170 at stock speeds cooled with Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro.

My idle temperatures are 33 -40C (lower on one core) and it I left it under full load and wouldn't go past 55C.(45minutes of Orthos)

Now I think this is a bit hot, and I plan on overclocking. What do you all think? And how much hotter does it get normally if I OC it at stock voltage, say, 2.7-2.8 ghz.

I think that there are many HSF's that do far better than an ACF 64 pro. That said, my opty 175 and ACF 64 go to almost 3.0 and still don't get to a temp that I'd worry about (~60, 65 C) under load. And that was with a bit of an overvoltage. I've since backed it down to stock voltage, but it was proof to me that it was a durable proc.

before anyone can say if it is excessive although i would say it is for any proc at stock settings, you would need to tell us abouthe temperature of the room and what airflow there is both in your room and in your case.

The temperature in my room is 27C most of the time, and my case has one fan at the front and one on the rear. If you want I can take pictures of my CPU and post them here.

To read the temps I am looking at the BIOS, Everest Ultimate, Speedfan, Core Temp. I did an orthos CPU stress test and left it running for almost an hour, the temps never went higher than 55C. Also the CPU fan seems to always run at a same speed no matter how hot the processor gets (Around 2500 RPM).

I am using a MSI K8N Neo 4 Platinum.

PS. At the moment is at 32C on Core 1, 37C on Core 2.

Thank you all.

that room temp is the problem, i would say your temps are fine for that ambient temp.

It is summer here :( bah. As an update, I opened the case and now it peaks at 51 C under full load. I think I'm going to get a new fan for the side of my comp.
