yeah, thats pretty much my problem. I tried compressing and decompressing a bunch of files at once, but it refuses to go above 2.33, according to cpu-z. Even then, it only stays at 2.33 for a second before dropping down to 2 ghz with multiplier 6. Any suggestions?

specs:
q9300
evga 780i
9600gt
wd5000aaks hdd
gskill 4 gig ddr2 800mhz

could need a bios update for your board. it seems to be running at the right bus speed, so it might not recognize the processor correctly, thinking it runs at a 7x multi instead of a 7.5x multi. Your board might not support half multipliers (check for a bios update first). It also might be a setting within the bios, check that too..

what version of CPUz are you using? It also might not support the new quads yet..

You should be running at a 9x mutilplier, try that then try your overclock my quad runs at 9x multiplier and oc/s to 3.2 at 37celcius at idle and 47 at load.

that's not the problem really, either the mobo or CPU-z isn't recognizing the CPU correctly..

That's it, Speedstep is enabled in the BIOS and its kicking the mhz down automatically. Go into the BIOS and disable it. Then you should see the rated stock speed.

You have a different cpu, diff FSB, diff multi.

Check for bios up date.

to all you speedstep guys, didn't you notice that his cpu isn't using the correct 7.5 multi under load, instead it is using 7. That was the problem, not it going down when idle...

My first thoughts were also SpeedStep but if the CPU was truly 100% stressed and the Multiplier stayed at 7, either you have an old version of CPU-Z or your nVidia mobo needs an update - Check the board's official nForce forum for tech support or Q/A there.

Itas a mobo update issue. The 780i should support half multipliers since it was mainly made for the 45nm chips since the 680i's were having "problems" with them at the time.

Just go to EVGA's site and check for the BIOS update.

First off, i wanna say ty to every1, since this is by far the most active thread ive ever started, and i have yet to try it, but i do see a bios update on evga's website that looks like it'll work.

Your multiplier is 7.5, you may need to add the .5 in bios.
