I've got a 500 Watt PSU in my case that came with it. It's a super silent PSU. I'm just wondering if 500W would be enough to supply a:

* Intel Core 2 Duo E4600 2.4GHz
* 2 x 1GB DDR 800MHz PC2-6400 RAM
* Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro 7 Heatsink/Fan
* Pioneer 112D DVDRW IDE Drive
* Samsung DVDRW IDE Drive
* 3.5" Floppy Card Reader
* 3 Fan Controller 5.25" linked to 1 x 120mm Fan and 2 x 80mm Fans
* ATi Radeon 9600 Pro Ultra 128MB Graphics Card
* Creative SoundBlaster Audigy 2 Platinum eX Sound Card
* 80GB Maxtor IDE Hard Drive
* 30GB Maxtor IDE Hard Drive
* 250GB Maxtor SATA2 Hard Drive
* 12" (30cm) Dual Cold Cathode Kit

Grateful if people think a 500W will be sufficient for the above.

Cheers.

500W is enough but the quality of the PSUs that come with cases are not very good.

If it's a antec PSU, then 500W is enough. If it isn't, I recommend you getting a better PSU, one from Corsair.

The only 500w power supplies I can find are the EZcool, XG Magnum, and the Silverstone Super Silent PSUs, if it is the Silverstone then it should be fine, the EZcool might be ok, and the XG Magnum is junk.

Could you tell us the brand on the PSU and case? I believe the Antec Sonata III comes with a good 500W PSU, but most case/PSU combos come with a decent case but crappy PSU.

The case is a Casecom LG-7770 and the PSU is EZCool 500W Super Silent.

I bought it cos I found an online shop selling the combo for £29 ($58) which included 24 hour courier delivery too!

Thought it was too good a deal to miss as I like the look of the Casecom LG-7770 case and read nothing but excellent reviews, especially as it's quite cheap too and comes with 2 pre-installed case fans (80mm rear and 120mm front).

Upgrading on a budget see and have upgraded to the above setup for only £170 ($340) including lots of bits n bobs like cable tidies, adapters etc.

Have any links for us to look at for the excellent reviews you mentioned?

We're always on the lookout for good equipment at reasonable prices.
Your actual power consumption will probably max out under 350 watts, possibly under 300watts with that video card. It uses about 1/3 the power of an ATI 3850.

Let us know how you make out.

Will do, and thanks for your help!

Here's a link to the case at e*uyer. However, the offer I had has expired so I can't link to it. You can see the case is cheap and gets 5/5 stars from 78 reviews though.

My god people, his configuration will use less than 250 watts total with less than 200W on the 12v rail. Why are you telling him that a generic 500w can't handle the load?

I wouldn't freak out about handling the load, but having it die is more of an issue, as it could take the system with it. I had a cheap 430W power supply die on me even though it was only powering a PIII with integrated graphics(well under 100W load), luckily it didn't damage anything else.

Yeah a cheap power supply at 50% load is not good for any form of a long term investment, especially if the PSU has been used previously for an extended perios of time.
