The color on my widescreen TFT monitor is really bad ... very much washed out. Light colors are hardly visible and in fact not different from white. White is more of Off-white than white
What needs a mention here is that my system's onboard graphics does not support the TFT's native resolution. Before calling support, I want to find out if running at a lower resolution affects color output on a TFT?
Also, will adding a graphics card resolve the 'color' issue I'm having? Right now I have my old CRT connected and the colors are excellent.
The TFT is Viewsonic VX2235WM. Motherboard is ASRock K7VM3. OS WinXP sp2.
"With the low list price, you might expect that the Viewsonic VX2235wm skips on performance, and you'd be right. The VX2235wm got a score of 69 on CNET Labs' DisplayMate-based tests, which is low compared to other similarly sized LCD displays we've tested. The VX2235wm's colors looked washed out compared to the Asus PW201's; this was evident in movies and games"
LCD vs CRT image quality is a topic that crops up on here at times...

CRT - The reference standard, the very best color and gray-scale. If you need very accurate color and gray-scale calibration then get a CRT.
LCD - Pleasing images but not accurate because of problems with black-level, gray-scale and Gamma. Reduced color saturation at low intensity levels due to a poor black-level. Generally not suitable for professional image color balancing.
That being said, you can get a LCD which does a pretty darn good job but it's gonna cost more than the cheapest monitor on the shelf. The cheaper panels are targeted at home users and gamers and utilize TN panels cause they cheap and have low response times. Response time was the thing that held the consumer back from switching so that stat is most times foremost in peps mind when shopping. The entry point for a non TN panel is about $450. Lenovo makes a 22" 1920 x 1200 model (L220x) that utilizes a S-PVA panel. Between the $250 and $450 price points you will find better LCD's by Viewsonic as well as other manufacturers. They are going to be TN panels and won't give you the color gamut of an S-PVA panel but should be noticeably better as price rises.
If you have just bought the thing, you might consider returning it and getting a smaller model. Maybe a 17" or 19" model and an inexpensive video card.
