Hello all . Im new to these forums so i hope im posting in the right section. Im looking to upgrade from my old rig.

P4 3.0 ghz 800mhz 1mb l2 cache
intel d865PERL socket 478 (which really screwed me)
2 gbs of ram
2600xt 512mb

Ive been doing some research and put together a system that i thought was pretty decent for gaming for under $800 shipped and all. now this doesnt include a video card or any dvd/cdroms as i have a 8500GT 512mb and some extras laying around. Im really on a budget because of the wifey. She thinks the computer i have now is good enough :fou: Anyways ... If you know of any hardware that is cheaper but just as good let me know ... Id like to be able to do this for cheaper.

E6750 will be a bit better than Q6600 in most games, and it's cheaper.
GA-P35-DS3L is cheaper than the 680i and still good enough for what you need.
Ditch the fancy cooler. Either get an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro or nothing at all.
Get a Corsair 550VX PSU from www.buy.com
Check out the Centurion or CM690 cases.

hmm this doesnt seem to be a good under $800. I would much rather get a cheaper cpu and overclock, so you can get a much better graphic card. That 8500gt won't be good for gaming at all....

E2180 - $80 You can get something higher if you want if it is within your budget. I would look into the new core2duos 8400 series with the 45nm or wait for the new quads with 45nm.

$792.64 including shipping but not including rebates.

To learn to overclock follow this guide.

Wow, that's a nice answer...

@OP: since you already have a dvd drive take that Sony out of the list and use the savings to upgrade the video card:
BFG Tech BFGE88512GTSE GeForce 8800GTS (G92) 512MB $225 after rebate

the game comes inside the box so its not listed, thats what i heard and this is stock speed so its not that fast compared to other overclocked ones.

If you want something cheaper, try to find 9600gt with rebates at around $120-$130
but if you want something better get a 8800gts at around $220

Also if you want to cut more into the budget, get you can get a E2160.
You can also cut the Power Supply budget and get a Corsair VX instead of HX.
Also you can lower the hard drive space to 320gb.

Also good luck on your built! I still didn't build a computer yet, but I do read a lot of reviews and research a lot. Waiting for starcraft 2 to come out to build one, since I don't play games, I don't even have a console =/.

Wow. Thanks for the Great Replies. This has helped lots. couple of Questions though.

The E2180 is only 1MB cache and 800 FSB. Would it be smarter to get the E6750 with the 4MB cache and 1333 FSB? I know its about 90 bucks more but it seems like more performance for the buck.I dont know if im even smart enough to overclock the CPU . I would probably fry the thing knowing my luck.

Another one for ya. The P35-DS3L. This thing being the 775 socket. Is this a good investment for more of a longterm buy? I got screwed about a year ago on my computer not realizing that socket 478 was a POS and there is very limited upgrade capabilities. I know P35-DS3L isnt SLI Supported, but im not even sure id be doing that in the near future anyhow.

I only play Battlefield 2 right now. Its not very demanding in the hardware aspect, But im running a 2600xt right now and im not very happy with it. Maybe i just dont like ATI. Basically i just want to build a system that will deliver much more performance then my current system not only for gaming ,but with basic computer use. Internet browsing. Some photoshop use.Etc.

I can get a E6750 with the P35-DS3L board,2Gb of Crucial Ballistix PC6400@ 800 mhz. Artic Cooling freezer pro 7, the Centurion 534 case, 500 GB seagate 7200.11 32 MB Cache HardDrive ,Corsair 520hx PS for under $650 shipped. I assume ill get raped on tax though. Thats of course with me keeping the 8500GT 512Mb video card i have.

Get this power supply, way better than the CM;

The E2x is great for overclocking...i assume the OP won't be overclocking. The E6750 is a marvelous CPU. Get it by all means.

The P35-DS3L is an excellent board. Its the very best for Non SLI rigs. And yes its a great investment for long term. Go for it.

The Corsair 550VX PSU link posted above by chuckm is very good indeed.

As for the Cooler, the Xigmatek S1283 is the boss out there right now. For $10 more than the Arctic freezer, its worth the dough.

Of course you don't like ATI if you bought a 2600XT. And I'm sure you won't like nVidia much either after trying to play games on the 8500GT. These are low-budget cards suitable for Word and Excel, not for gaming. OK, that was the bad news. The good news is that a $220 card like the 8800GTS G92 or even a cheaper thing like the HD 3870 can solve that problem nicely.

Don't worry about SLI. You can't do it with the motherboard and power supply you picked, and it's only worth it if you can afford two high-end video cards and a very large monitor anyway. For example you are better off with a single 8800GTS 512MB than with two 8500GT cards in SLI.

I'd get a different CPU cooler than the ultra/chilltec cooler.

Great Replies again. This forum has again amazed me with its help.

I understand im getting no where in the gaming aspect with the 8500GT.
Im planning on upgrading that for sure when i get the extra 200$ to throw around in upgrades. Im definitely leaning torwards a 8800 series video card when i do.

I read some reviews on Newegg about the E6750 and it seems thats the way im going to go. Nothing but great reviews .. Only complaints were about the heatsink. When i get this i may be asking for some one on one help overclocking the cpu to about 3.0ghz. Nothing too stressfull so i can make it last a while.

I assume also for the Harddrive the Seagate 7200.11 wasnt made in a 320 or a 250 gb HD? I only see the 7200.10.

For the Crucial Ballistix i read tons of unhappy reviews.I know this is great memory but Mainly lots of sticks failing or DOA Or that you need to run on 2.2v. Is there any memory out there with the same cost/performance that would have more positive relief?

Reply to chibanginpr

Right, 7200.11 starts at 500GB.

Reply to aevm

Newegg just added there 7200.11 320GB HD with only 16mb Cache ... Would i recognize a big difference between 16mb and 32mb cache performance?

Reply to chibanginpr

AFAIK, no you wouldn't see a big difference between 16 and 32 MB of cache.

This new Seagate hard disk has a single 320GB platter. Very few disks out there have densities this high. Examples: Samsung Spinpoint F1 1TB, Western Digital WD6400AAKS 640MB. I'd expect the Seagate to be just like them. That is, even better than the WD Raptor at editing/compressing videos, or other things that involve a few huge files.

Too early to tell, let's see some reviews first.
